A Monday email that reads like something a GM would write
Most shops find out how the week went by feel — the till looked healthy, it felt busy, someone hasn't been in for a while but you can't say who. That works right up until you need to make a decision with it.
Every Monday morning, Racketworks now sends you the week: what you collected against last week, how many rackets went out, who is overdue, who owes you money, who has quietly drifted away — and one thing worth doing about it. The first Monday of a month adds the month behind you. In January it adds the quarter and the year.
The same numbers live in the console under This Week, and they are produced by the same code that writes the email. The screen and the inbox cannot drift apart and tell you two different things, because there is only one calculation.
Every money figure says which kind of money it is. Collected and charged are different numbers, and two unlabelled figures that disagree don't create one doubt — they destroy your confidence in every number on the page. Turnaround time and on-time percentage arrive with the count they're based on, so you can see whether an average is worth anything. And months are cut in your shop's own timezone rather than UTC, because a December boundary in the wrong zone isn't a rounding error, it's a tax-year error.
What it doesn't include, on purpose: margin. Profit is only shown where jobs actually recorded what the string cost, and a shop that has just started recording costs would otherwise be shown a wildly flattering number built on absent data. It fills in as the costs do.
